The wrong side of 25...
WHO AM I
Hello and welcome to my travel blog!
Considering this will be passed on to family and friends to keep you all updated on my travels, I'm sure you'll know exactly who I am! If not, thank you for taking the time to read my page :)
You might wonder why I've named it 'the wrong side of 25' and the answer is fairly simple. For my 26th birthday this year, my friend Sarah wrote in my card 'Welcome to the wrong side of 25 club'. So many people joke that it's a slippery slope and time goes so much quicker towards turning 30. When I was thinking about a title for the blog it reminded me of that and was ironic because even though I am nearer 30, I still feel as though I'm in my early twenties and fortunately enough for me, I have no commitments tying me to home so I can embark on this trip.
My name is Megan but I have various nicknames including Megs, Megsy, Meggy, Megso or Meag (there are plenty more but I'll leave it there for now!) and I live in Kent with my Mum, sister and her pet rabbit Treacle (The oldest rabbit in Kent for sure!). I feel as If I should let you in on a few of my attributes so you can understand a bit more of what I'm about. Words people would probably use to describe me: loud, bubbly, giggly, kind, caring, affectionate, brutally honest and loyal...the one thing they often miss completely is how shy I can be, especially in unknown situations or with new people where previously shyness has been mistaken for arrogance, which isn't the case at all! Another thing a lot of people don't know about is that I've suffered with social anxiety since I was about 13 - whilst I'm being honest I might as well mention it as I've got nothing to hide and too few people talk about it, yet it's one of the biggest factors for me going away so I can face it head on!
I was working in London for a creative marketing agency but after a close friend's dad passed away very suddenly, I realised life is far too short to be unhappy and it was time to be selfish and find myself again after my own dad passed away. After leaving that job at Easter, I decided to embark on something that I had never considered before as I'd been too scared - a solo journey across the world to explore new cultures, meet new people and conquer my fears by getting out of my comfort zone.
I begin in Abu Dhabi and will then visit Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bali, Singapore, Fiji and New Zealand, ending up in Australia. I will be sure to have various things to report about places I've visited, things I'm looking forward to and even the things I haven't enjoyed. I'm also expecting there to be plenty of laughs along the way as I often manage to get myself involved in entertaining situations as I'm known for attracting weird things by being the one person who sits next to the lady that tells you her life story on the bus, the local loony on the train or other entertaining chaos.
I hope you enjoy it!
Megs xx
